Blind Movie Critic Jay Forry Reviews Looper, Staring Bruce Willis & Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Rian Johnson has directed the films Brick and The Brothers Bloom, and now he has written and directed his third movie, the sci-fi thriller Looper.
Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) lives in the year 2042 and works as a Looper. It’s impossible to dispose of a body in 2072, so people are sent back for Joe and other Looper’s to kill and burn in an incinerator. His job is going smoothly until a person arrives who is actually Joe when he’s about 50 (Bruce Willis).
Joe is so shocked, that he hesitates, and the older Joe escapes. When young Joe fails to do his job, the mob boss named Abe (Jeff Daniels) sends all of his minions to kill both Joe’s.
As older Joe goes on a rampage to find and kill Abe, young Joe goes to a farm where he meets Sara (Emily Blunt) and her young son Cid (Pierce Gagnon) who has special powers. (I’m still not sure why the powers were in this film unless they plan on turning it into a super hero film next year.)
When older Joe finally arrives at the farm, telekinetic powers are used, people are killed, and the future is changed. To begin with, this is a fantastic film. It’s very hard to do a time travel movie without huge plot holes but the director covers every base to keep the script solid. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s star has been rising the last couple years and this performance is top-notch and can only help him. It has great twists and turns from a complex script that is not at all confusing.
The first act in the movie really does a good job setting up the story and the third act is full of action and thrills. I’m really looking for a problem (no pun intended) when I say the middle of the film slows down a little and I’m going to help by adding that it’s just to develop the story.
This is one of my favorite science fiction films in the last couple years and I’m giving it an A- Rating. This movie has been given an R rating by the MPAA.
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals. I rely more on a good story line than special effects. Visit my website at: BlindsideReviews.com
