Blindside Movie Review by Jay Forry: Transformers, Dark of the Moon

If you’re still asking yourself or someone else, “What are Autobots and Decepticons?” maybe Michael Bay’s third film about giant transforming robots titled, Transformers, Dark of the Moon isn’t for you.

This story begins with a step back in time to 1969 when America lands on the moon to find an Autobot spaceship that has crash-landed after leaving the Transformers home world of Cybotron.  Jump forward to the present day, when friend of the Autobots Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) is looking for a job after college and has also found a new girlfriend named Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley). (They actually do nothing here but I have to introduce the two main characters.)

Sam also needs a new car since his transforming Camero Bumblebee is off on a mission with his autobot friends Ratchet, Iron Hide, Sideswipe and their leader Optimus Prime to name a few.  The Autobots think they have received help from Optimus Prime’s mentor, Sentinel Prime and they need it when a new Decepticon named Shock Wave is found.

Soon Megatron, the leader of the Deceptocons who now transforms into a Tanker Mac Truck along with Brawl, Star Scream, Laser Beak, and Sound Wolf along with many others take over the city of Chicago when the Autobots leave Earth.  It looks like their battle over the planet will result in control of the vessel that was found on the moon years ago called the Arc.

Just like the first 2 Transformer films this movie is still too big, too long, too loud and the dialogue is too corny.  It’s too loud when my drink is vibrating during action scenes, it’s too long at almost 2 and a half hours of action and no real plot.  It’s too corny when you hear dialogue such as “You didn’t let me down, you let yourself down.”  That sounds as lame now as it did when my parents said it after they received my report card from school.

You may think the acting is better with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley since Megan Fox was fired for saying Michael Bay is like Hitler.  Of course, none of this really matters if you are the target audience for this kind of entertainment.  (I can tell you if you’re blind you’re not the target audience.)  Go see this film if you enjoy fantastic 3D, spectacular explosions and long action scenes – none of which I can comment on.  This will definitely be one of the biggest films of the summer and I give it a C+ rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA.
